2002 Bursary

This marked the 5th year that the Alumni has awarded bursaries to current staff at HSR. The first bursary awarded in 1998 totalled $250. Each year we have been able to award more. In 2002, the bursary was set at $700. Additional donations from alumni members to the bursary allowed us to offer an additional $300 award.

The $300 bursary was awarded to Geoffrey Vaughan. 2002 was Geoffrey’s fourth year on staff. He has worked as Store, Admin Assistant, Rappelling and Office Manager. Geoffrey has been in Scouting for as long as possible, as he has been a member since he joined Beavers at the earliest age. Once done university, Geoffrey plans to continue in Scouting by taking on a leadership role. Geoffrey began studies in September at Sir Wilfred Laurier University in Computer Science.

The recipient of the $700 bursary was Shaun Donald. Many of us know Shaun as Dr. Doug Donald’s son. Shaun grew up at HSR spending parts of his summer’s there during Dr. Doug’s weeks on staff. Shaun also camped at HSR with his troop and with composite. He also served four years on staff as Rappelling, Program Float and Rifle. In addition, Shaun volunteered for many weeks during two other summers. Shaun has been very active in Scouting and has attended three Canadian Jamborees, World Jam in Chile and is going to the World Jamboree in Thailand this year. Shaun began studies in Planning at the University of Waterloo this September.

Congratulations to both Geoffrey and Shaun. Thanks go out to the selection committee for 5 years of service. We appreciate all our members who attended and supported fundraising events. This bursary could not exist without your contributions.
