BRUCE VAN VLIET, PhD (75,76,77,78,79)
August
2007 -
Bruce was an IT (75), admin clerk (78), and outboard
mechanic (76,77,79). In 1975 Bruce was the recipient of the
Supervisor's
Award and in 1979 received the
Purple Bead
Award along with
John Kissick (77-80).
After Haliburton, he wondered through various universities and countries
before settling down at Memorial University of Newfoundland where
he is currently
Professor of Cardiovascular and Renal Physiology. Turns out, the heart and blood
vessels run on just about the same principles as a 9.9 hp Evinrude outboard.
He met his partner Diane Gilmore along the way, and they have been together 23
years now. It turns out she had worked at Camp Adelaide while Bruce was at HSR.
They spend much of their free time two hours north of St. John’s at
their cabin, hiking, gazing at stars, and toasting their feet by the fire. Not much has changed?
