Alex Leroy (62,63,64,65) Alex worked at Haliburton Scout
Reserve for four years, first as program staff (62-63) and then as waterfront
supervisor (64-65).
Alex was one of
the first HSR Body Builders and spent a great deal of quality time perched
on top of the "Landship" as the programme centre was called in those days,
catching rays and observing the lake. Alex or "Ace" was well known in HSR folk
lore as the guy who slept through the Hub Fire, although he was the closest to
it.
Brothers John Leroy (64-67)
and Bob Leroy (61) also served on the HSR staff.
"Peacefully, with his family at his side, on January 4, 2000,
at the Princess Margaret Hospital, after a courageous struggle with leukemia.
Beloved husband of Susan and father of Christopher. Son of the late Lillice
LeRoy and Donald LeRoy, brother of John LeRoy and his wife Cathy,
Bob LeRoy and his wife Virginia and Rod LeRoy and his wife Peggy. Son-in-law
of Margaret Whitby and her late husband Ernest, and brother-in-law to their
sons Paul and his wife Beth and Michael and his wife Ann. Alex will be
missed more than words can express by his family, his adoring nieces and
nephews, and his wide circle of friends, colleagues and students, all of
whose lives he has enlivened and enriched. The family will receive friends
from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, January 6 at the Morley Bedford
Funeral Home at 159 Eglinton Ave. West. In lieu of flowers, the family
would appreciate contributions to your local food bank. Funeral arrangements
to be announced."
