Up | The Army Trucks | Camp Seven | Camp Seven A | Canoe Building | Chief's Paddle Award | HSR Awards: Then and Now | HSR Songs 1981 | Infernal Incinerator | Keith Whiten Memorial Award | Leaving | Lost Kennabi Cabin | Purple Bead Award | Supervisor's Award Recipients | Steam Train | The Victoria Railroad Co.
This recognition of a Purple
Bead strung on a thong, is awarded to the staff member with whom you would
most like to camp again.
Tracey Stock (74-78) wrote:
"...it was first awarded [to staff] at the final banquet
in 1976 by Ian Jones (63-67,73-78). This was the same year the HSR
Staff Award was first issued.... Ian's introduction of the Purple Bead
characterized it as recognition of attitude and skill in the finest traditions
of Scouting and the HSR Staff. Noting that everyone on staff was part of
that fine tradition, he said the Purple Bead served to honour the "best
among the best"..."
This award is now voted on
by secret ballot of the junior staff members.
