A CHRONOLOGY OF HSR

2000
  • Keith Whiten (00-03) of Haliburton starts as new Camp Ranger.
  • New crib docks built at Big Bear, Birch Point, Sejur Heights, Ojibway Rock, Pitten Point and Westview.
  • Long Drop closed down and superstructure used to build new Paddle Palace on the waterfront.
  • Northern Lights and Lookout Lodge lifted, levelled and set on new piers.
  • Northern Lights also gutted and renovated including insulation in the walls and ceiling.
  • Some interior renovations down to Lookout Lodge.
  • Chef's Chalet gutted and turned into two rooms each with own entrance.
  • New roof on Health Centre and new floor in nurse's quarters which also have the walls insulated.
  • Half walls put on two sides of Hurst Lake Pavilion.
  • Cabin mouse proofing campaign started.
  • JC Moore's cabin (overlooking the maintenance channel) renovations started by 1st Kennabi Rovers and Ranger Keith Whiten.

2002

  • Doug Gough becomes Camp Director

  • New Kitchen Stove, hood and BBQ grill

  • Many new acquisitions from the closing of Camp Gay Venture

  • New Main Dock

  • Rangers Trailer

  • New Telephone tower

  • Addition of third Well

  • Rifle Range updated

  • New North Entrance created off Kennaway Road (west of JC Cabin)

  • Sailing slips removed and sailboats moored in lake (again)

  • Hemlock 2 & 4 reconfigured

  • Eighth barge added to replace damaged barge

2003

  • Land Line and Pay Phone finally reaches camp thanks to new phone tower

  • Climbing Wall program begins

  • Composite camp program is once again back to operating for eight weeks

  • Facilities Manager and Ranger, Keith Whiten (00-03), “Gone Home”

  • Ted Aylan-Parker (61,63-66,71,80-85,90-01,03-04) returns as Camp Ranger and completes 25 complete summers on staff. Previously J.C. Moore held the record at 24 summers.

2004
  • Range Cabins Built at Old Rifle Range
  • Composite Adult Cabin Built on Canoe Point
  
2005
  • Kevin Bell appointed Ranger at HSR
  • New Waterfront Deck constructed
  • Smokey Hollow Renovation
  • Beaver Flats Wash House Built
  • Old Snack Shack torn down and replaced with New Snack Shack
  
2006
  • Pow-Wow Fireplace after demolition - Fall 2006Kevin Bell Appointed Camp Director/Camp Ranger
  • New Camper Washroom built on Waterfront
  • New Staff Cabin added at Hemlock
  • New IT wash House opened at IT Land
  • Chef's Chalet becomes the New Dew Drop
  • Several tornados damage Waconda Point, Drag Lake Area and The Maintenance Shop area
  • Pow Wow Lodge demolished.

2007

  • 60th Anniversary of HSR Celebrated
  • Replaced the dining room floor in the Hub
  • Replaced Look Out Lodge (the Doctor's Cabin)

2008

  • Built a Bouldering Wall near Climbing Wall
  • Added War Canoes
